PUBLIC HEARING on Monday, January 5, 2026

Fill District 24 Maryland Delegate Vacancy

FILING DEADLINE
Saturday, January 3, 2026, AT 5:00 P.M.

The Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee (PGCDCC) will convene an in-person public hearing on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 7:00 pm to fill District 24 Delegate vacancy. The meeting will take place at Plumbers and Gas Fitters Local 5 Union Hall located at 4755 Walden Lane, Lanham Maryland 20706.

Pursuant to the PGCDCC Constitution – ARTICLE X - Section 1 - Legislative Vacancies – “In the case of death, disqualification, resignation, refusal to act, expulsion, or removal of any person who shall have been elected as a Democratic State Delegate or Senator from a legislative district that includes Prince George's County, Maryland, or in case of a tie in a Primary Election between two or more such qualified persons, the Governor shall appoint a person to fill such vacancy from a person whose name shall be submitted to him/her in writing within thirty days after the occurrence of the vacancy, by the PGCDCC from the legislative district from which the Delegate or Senator was appointed or elected, provided that the appointee shall be a member of the Democratic Party in the legislative district at the time of the last election or appointment of the vacating Delegate or Senator. It shall be the duty of the Governor to make said appointment within fifteen days after the submission thereof to him/her.

▪ Candidates must be a registered voter and reside in the legislative district where the vacancy has occurred.
▪ Candidates must reside in the 24 Legislative District.
▪ The PGCDCC requires the following documents in PDF format: (1) candidate application (2)letter of intent; (3) resume; and (4) voter registration card.
▪ Filing deadline: 5pm, Saturday, January 3, 2026. Email all required documents in PDF format only to: pgcdccinfo@gmail.com
▪ Incomplete packets and packets received after the deadline will not be accepted.
▪ Candidates shall speak in alphabetical order, 2 minutes per candidate.
▪ Candidates may have no more than two people speak on their behalf, 2 minutes each.
▪ Speakers may not transfer their time to another speaker.

FILING DEADLINE
Saturday, January 3, 2026, AT 5:00 P.M.

The Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee (PGCDCC) will convene an in-person public hearing on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 7:00 pm to fill District 27A Delegate vacancy. The meeting will take place at Plumbers and Gas Fitters Local 5 Union Hall located at 4755 Walden Lane, Lanham Maryland 20706. Delegate Kevin Harris has resigned.

Unlawful Deportation of Mr. Kilmar Garcia and the Supreme Court's Ruling

We are outraged by the recent unlawful deportation of Mr. Garcia, a Prince George’s resident, whose forced removal without due process has sent fear through our communities. His deportation, carried out in clear violation of legal protections, represents a failure of justice.

The Supreme Court has now issued a legal ruling affirming that the actions taken in Mr. Garcia’s case were unlawful. This decision directly reaffirms the requirement that the government must uphold the rule of law. No individual shall be stripped of their rights without due process. The Trump administration is a threat to the rule of law and the Constitution and members of the administration are openly taunting the Supreme Court.

As residents of Prince George’s County, we are concerned about the broader implications of this and similar actions. When Constitutional rights are undermined for those that are deemed “unsympathetic” by the media and the Trump administration, the rights of all are threatened.

We stand in solidarity with all Prince Georgians who view this as a threat to their rights and all those impacted by the unlawful actions of this administration. We expect our federal government to uphold the constitutional rights of all individuals and to work tirelessly to ensure that such an injustice never happens again.

The Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee (PGCDCC) hosted an Installation Ceremony and Welcome Reception on Tuesday, February 28, 2025, in Lanham, Maryland, to officially swear in its 2025 Executive Board members. The event welcomed Congressional, State, District, and local officials, who joined in commemorating this significant occasion.

Sylvia Johnson Elected as Chair of PGCDCC

The Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee (PGCDCC) is proud to announce Sylvia Johnson as its new Chair, effective January 21, 2025. With extensive experience in government, private sector leadership, and community advocacy, Ms. Johnson has served as a compliance officer for the U.S. FDA’s vaccine program, held executive roles in Fortune 500 companies, and is the CEO and Founder of JI-Solutions, a Health IT and Biomedical Consulting Firm in Prince George’s County.

Ms. Johnson also serves on local boards, including Doctors Community (Luminis Health) Hospital and the Human Rights Commission. As PGCDCC Chair, she is committed to transparency, inclusion, and community engagement, ensuring the Committee remains an active voice for residents.
